B'nai Israel Schedule of Services

A GUIDE TO SERVICES AT B'NAI ISRAEL

All worship services are held at B'nai Israel, 144 Main Street North, Southbury. This schedule includes music by Music Director Linda Goodman, a student cantor, and the B’nai Israel choir (subject to last-minute changes.) Please check the Shofar, B'nai Israel's monthly newsletter, for additional information.

Kabbalat Shabbat (most Friday evenings, 7:30 PM)
We welcome Shabbat on most Friday evenings at 7:30 PM. Led by Rabbi Eric Polokoff, this service includes both Hebrew and English prayers, traditional and contemporary music led by our Music Director Linda Goodman, a student cantor and/or our B'nai Israel soloists (Linda Goodman, Dennis Guillaume, Lorraine Luger, Wendy Zullo, Dan Goodman, and Jeff Berkowitz), Torah reading, and a thought-provoking sermon. Stay for the Oneg and make new friends!

The Torah: A Love Story (most Saturday mornings, 10:00 AM)
Rabbi Eric's Shabbat morning Torah study with light breakfast fare begins at 10:00 AM. (Cost: Donation.) Newcomers always welcome. Join the "give and take" that characterizes this Adult Education opportunity.

Musical Minyan (most Saturday mornings, 11:00 AM)
The 11:00 AM Musical Minyan is a more contemplative worship service co-lead by Rabbi Eric and soloist Dennis Guillaume. This interactive service -- with Hebrew, transliterations, and English -- is an alternative to the hustle and bustle of Friday nights. Attendance is open to all. (Note: You need not attend the Torah study to attend the minyan.)

Shabbat Sheli (4-5 times a year; Friday evening)
A child-friendly family worship experience, Shabbat Sheli ("My Shabbat") is just the ticket for children up to age 8. Big brothers and sisters are always welcome. Come for the songs, prayers, and Rabbi Eric's Torah story. This occasional service begins at 7:00 PM; please check the schedule for the next Sheli.

Tot Shabbat (monthly, third Saturday, 9:15 AM)
Our newest service is the perfect introduction to Shabbat morning for our youngest members, the "under seven crowd." On the third Saturday of each month we sing Shabbat songs, chant the Sh'ma, listen to a Torah story, and eat! Tot Shabbat will be led by Rabbi Eric with musical assistance from Dennis Guillaume.

Greeters are needed at Shabbat services (Friday evening and Saturday mornings).

If you can man the front desk between 7 PM and 9:45 PM on Fridays, or between 9:45 AM and 12:30 PM on Saturday mornings please e-mail Richard Bauman at baumanrc@gmail.com.
